Tropical Storm Paloma formed in the Caribbean on Thursday, November 6, 2008. By the following day, it grew into Hurricane Paloma— a Category 1 storm packing sustained winds of about 80 miles per hour. Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center expected the hurricane to strengthen into a Category 3 storm as it headed for the Cayman Islands and eventually, Cuba.
