Tropical Storm Alma

Tropical Storm Alma struck land on May 29, 2008 along the coast of Nicaragua.

Maximum sustained winds were approximately 65 mph, but are expected to drop as the storm moves inland and over Honduras.

Concerns

Nicaragua is still recovering from Hurricane Felix, which devastated the country in 2007. Major concerns arising from Alma and future storms are centered around the agricultural industry of the country.

Nicaragua produces beans, corn, wheat and rice. Recently they have attempted to increase production to stave off rising food costs.
