  • Who is Trey Songz?

    Trey Songz is a 25 year old African American singer, rapper, actor and music producer. He released his third studio album, entitled "Ready" in August 2009.

    He is signed to the Atlantic/Songbook record label.

  • Life

    The man R&B fans know as Trey Songz was originally born Tremaine Aldon Neverson on November 28, 1984 in Petersburg, Virginia. Growing up in a military family that traveled frequently, Trey never realized he had musical talent until he was about 14 years old. Although for some reason he was hesitant about pursing a career in music, his friends and family provided encouragement, leading him to start doing local performances and shows. Fortunately, Troy Taylor, a record producer, discovered Trey during a local talent show. This soon lead to a record deal with Atlantic Records. As soon as he graduated from high school, Songz relocated to New Jersey to start working on his professional music career.

  • Trey Songz 2009 Album, Ready

    In 2009, the single "Can't Help but Wait", from his album Trey Day, earned Songz a surprising and unexpected Grammy nomination for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance at the 2009 Grammy Awards. Soon after that nomination, Trey announced the upcoming release of what would be his third studio album. The album, titled "Ready", originally slated to be released in August 2009, was released in September 2009. Before he had released Ready, Songz had created a mixtape titled "Anticipation" in June 2009 on his website's blog. This mixtape is the second that Trey Songz released in 2009-the first was called Genesis. Genesis was merely a small collection of recordings trey had made when he was fifteen years old. He claimed that releasing those recordings was to show his fans that he had a dedication to his music from a young age. His third album, Ready, was preceded by it's initial single which is called, "I Need a Girl". Ready debuted at number three on the Billboard 200, and sold a whopping 131,000 copies in its first week after release.

    The second single from the album Ready, a track called "Successful", features Canadian rapper Drake, who has seen enormous success during 2009 as well. The song so far has peaked at #17 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the second top 20 hit for Trey Songz. Ready is already being considered for a Best Contemporary R&B Album nomination at the 52nd Grammy Awards, as well as a few other nominations.

    2008: Nominated for BET Award for Best Male R&B Artist, Nominated for Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for "Can't Help but Wait", Nominated for Ozone Award for Best R&B Artist.
