During a National Hockey League career that has spanned twenty years, Trevor Linden has acted as captain of both the Vancouver Canucks and New York Islanders. Respected for his strong leadership skills both on and off the ice, Linden acted as Captain of the National Hockey League Players Association from 1998 through 2006 and has gained public esteem for his extensive charity work.
During the Canucks last game of the 2007-2008 regular season, Linden was named the first star and received a standing ovation from the Vancouver crowd. Although Linden did not officially announce it, many have assumed that this was his last game as was strongly implied.
NHL Career
Linden began his NHL career at the age of 18 after being drafted second overall by the Vancouver Canucks during the 1988 NHL Entry Draft. During his rookie year, Linden scored 30 goals to set a new franchise record and was runner up for the NHL Rookie of the Year Award. Two years later, during the 1990-1991 season, Linden was named Team Captain at only age 21 and would go on to record his first of three consecutive 70 point seasons.
After ten years with the Canucks, Linden was traded to the New York Islanders, where he remained for two seasons before a trade made him a member of the Montreal Canadiens for another two seasons. From Montreal, Linden played with the Washington Capitals before returning via a trade to the Vancouver Canucks in 2001.
