Trevor Keezer says he was fired from his job as a cashier at a Home Depot in Okeechobee, Florida, for wearing a "One nation under God" button on his work apron. The 20-year-old Keezer says he wore the button, which features the line from the Pledge of Allegiance on an American flag, for over a year before he was fired on October 23, 2009. Home Depot says Keezer was in violation of the company's dress code, adding that he was warned to stop wearing the button or face disciplinary action. An attorney for Keezer says she plans to sue Home Depot for religious discrimination.http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hfpVAVzgCnoVOOzinfk62sSfzRtgD9BJNCEG0
Home Depot Statement
"This associate chose to wear a button that expressed his religious beliefs. The issue is not whether or not we agree with the message on the button. That's not our place to say, which is exactly why we have a blanket policy, which is long-standing and well-communicated to our associates, that only company-provided pins and badges can be worn on our aprons."—Craig Fishel, Home Depot spokespersonhttp://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hfpVAVzgCnoVOOzinfk62sSfzRtgD9BJNCEG0
