South African professional golfer Trevor Immelman won $1.35 million as the top finisher in the 2008 Masters on April 13, 2008. His final score was 8 under par, which was 3 shots ahead of second place finisher Tiger Woods.
Immelman started golfing professionally in 1999 after winning the 1998 U.S. Amateur Public Links. He joined the European Tour in 2001, and became part of the PGA Tour in 2006. He went on to be named the PGAs Tour's Rookie of the Year.
Immelman missed the first eight weeks of the 2008 PGA Tour season because of surgery to remove a golf ball-sized, benign, calcified fibrosis tumor from his diaphragm.
