  • Trevor Hoffman is an Major League Baseball closing pitcher who is currently a free agent. He is widely regarded as one of the best relief pitchers in the history of the game. As of 2008, he holds the all-time record for most saves in Major League Baseball.

  • Early Life

    Trevor William Hoffman was born in Bellflower, California, on October 13, 1967. He would attend the University of Arizona where he was a hot hitting shortstop. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 11th round of the 1989 draft. He soon was converted to relief pitcher where he thrived. He was then claimed by the Florida Marlins in the 1992 expansion draft.
  • Pro Career

    In 1993, he was traded to the San Diego Padres for Gary Sheffield and Rich Rodriguez. In 1994, he eventually earned the closer role for the ball club. In his years in San Diego, he established himself as one of the premiere relief pitchers in the history of the game. He won the Relief Man of the Year Award in 1998 and in 2006. In 2006, he became the all-time Major league baseball saves leader.

    On November 10, 2008, news agencies reported that contract extension talks between Hoffman and the Padres broke down and that Hoffman would likely become a free agent.
