    Cahill spent the 2006, 2007 and 2008 season playing for the Athletics' minor league affiliates, Kane County Cougars, Stockton Ports and Midland Rock Hounds, before participating as part of the US National Baseball Team in the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics.

    Cahill made the Athletics starting rotation out of Spring Training in 2009. On April 7, 2009, Cahill made his Major League debut against the Los Angeles Angels, going 5 innings, allowing 5 hits, 2 earned runs, striking out 1 and receiving a no decision.
