Trans fat is a type of unsaturated fat that is most often artificially synthesized and added to many foods. Due to the health effects of trans fat, it is starting to be banned from many restaurants and food products in the United States. However, there is quite a bit of controversy regarding the use of trans fat.

California Ban
On July 25, 2008, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger became to first to signed a law, banning trans fat in restaurants across the state of California. The ban requires restaurants to begin phasing out the use of trans fat oils by July 1, 2010.
