Info
Training Day details the events of a single day when LAPD narcotics officer Alonzo Harris (Denzel Washington) evaluates fellow officer Jake Hoyt (Ethan Hawke), who is training to become a narc.
As they go deeper into the streets of Los Angeles, Hoyt realizes that the reason why Harris is so feared is because Harris is corrupt, rationalizing that it is justifiable to commit minor crimes to prevent greater ones. Hoyt disagrees, and with the help of the Russian Mafia, puts an end to Hoyt's wrongdoings.
The film, currently with a 71% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, received positive reviews upon its release, earning Hawke an Oscar nomination for "Best Supporting Actor." That same year, Washington won a "Best Actor" Oscar, becoming the second African-American to do so since Sidney Poitier.
