Traffic is a 2000 Academy Award winning film about the illegal drug trade in the United States and Mexico. Some of the story is based on the true stories surrounding Mexican drug czar Jesus Gutierrez Rebollo of the Juarez Cartel, and the fictional "Obregon Cartel" is based on the real Tijuana Cartel.
The film was directed by Steven Soderbergh, and was based on a British television series.
Awards
Traffic won four Academy Awards, for Best Director, Best Supporting Actor, Best Film Editing, and Best Adapted Screenplay. It did not win Best Picture, but was nominated for the award. The film also won Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture and Best Screenplay at the Golden Globes.
