This is a one-page resource for Toyota Tundra owners, detailing current and past Toyota Tundra Recalls. Finding all the necessary information online can be confusing, as any model of vehicle can potentially have more than one recall or safety advisory out at one time. This page contains information on the Tundra recalls, and where applicable, instructions for their owners.
There are currently three ongoing Tundra Recalls.
Toyota factories started closing on January 26, 2010 until they had a fix in place for the sticking accelerator problem.http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2010/01/toyota-temporarily-halts-tundra-production-and-sales.html
January 21, 2010 Model Years 2007-2009
On January 21, 2010, Toyota issued the recall of the Tundra as part of a larger recall which included approximately 2.3 million vehicles. This recall is due to an accelerator sticking problem which is unrelated to an earlier announced safety issue on approximately 4.2 million vehicles with pedals getting stuck on floor mats. An estimated 1.7 million vehicles are subject to both recalls, including the Toyota Tundra 2007-2009 models.
The problem was discovered when investigating reports of stuck accelerator pedals in vehicles which did not have floor mats.http://pressroom.toyota.com/pr/tms/toyota/toyota-files-voluntary-safety-152979.aspx
November 24, 2009 Model Years 2000-2003
On the 24th of November 2009, Toyota announced an unrelated recall for model years 2000-2003 due to a problem involving those models in cold weather areas with high road salt use. It was found that certain of these models might suffer from excessive corrosion on the rear cross member, which can affect the rear brakes. Toyota began sending letters to owners, notifying them of the problem beginning in December 2009 and extending into 2010.http://pressroom.toyota.com/pr/tms/toyota/toyota-announces-safety-recall-149286.aspx
September 29, 2009 Model Years 2007-2009
Toyota issued a consumer safety advisory for the Toyota Tundra model truck on September 29, 2009 due to floor mats that could potentially cause the accelerator to stick and accelerate unintentionally. The Tundra advisory is only one part of a larger list of Toyota models involving 3.8 million vehicles.http://pressroom.toyota.com/pr/tms/toyota/toyota-consumer-safety-advisory-111943.aspx
On November 2, 2009, Toyota began mailing letters to owners of vehicles affected by the safety advisory. The letter stated that the problem is not vehicle-based, but rather due to floor mats that were installed incorrectly or were out of place, causing the accelerator to potentially become trapped in a wide open position. Owners were advised to remove the floor mats and not replace them with any alternative mats until a solution could be found.http://pressroom.toyota.com/pr/tms/lexus/toyota-begins-interim-notification-112086.aspx
On November 25, a proposed remedy was announced to address the sticking accelerator pedal, which included dealers reshaping the pedal to avoid the problem. New pedals are expected to be available for replacement starting April 2010. Owners who choose to have the pedal reshaped in the interim will also be eligible for the replacement pedal.http://pressroom.toyota.com/pr/tms/toyota/toyota-announces-details-of-remedy-152140.aspx
