On April 9, 2008 Toyota announced that they will recall 2003 and 2004 Corolla and Matrix models with power windows.
The recall affects over a half million Toyota Corolla and Toyota Matrix sedans and hatchbacks sold in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and the U.S. territories in the past five years.
Glass bolts in the driver and passenger power window systems may become loose, potentially causing the glass to separate from the window regulator, which could result in the window breaking or shattering.
A spokesman for Toyota said the company knew of one minor accident and 15 injuries resulting from the defect, and had received a total of 143 complaints of loosening bolts.
General Motors who builds the Pontiac Vibe in a joint venture with Toyota will recall 122,598 Pontiac Vibe hatchbacks. The Pontiac Vibe has the same platform as the Toyota Matrix.
Toyota will officially notify car owners by mail of the recall beginning in late April.
