Career
The group was formed in 1990 by Doug McCombs and John Herndon. The duo was then joined by John McEntire and Bundy K. Brown and Dan Bitney.
McEntire eventually became the bands leader, writing most of their material, as well as their engineer and producer in the studio.
Tortoise' music incorporates several styles including krautrock, jazz, electronica and rock.
