Totillas are thin round unleavened flat bread popular throughout the United States, Mexico, Canada, Central America and the Caribbean.
Tortillas are usually steamed, or fried and used to hold filling, like in a burrito or Chimichanga or cut into strips and fried individually as tortilla Chips.
Simple Recipe
- 4 Cups of flour
- 1/2 Cup shortening
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 Cup warm water
Directions
- Mix 2 cups of flour, shortening and salt
- Mix until crumbly
- Add warm water: (mixture will be sticky)
- Add remaining 2 cups of flour, (a little at a time)
- Knead until dough is pliable
- Let sit (covered) for at least one hour
- Portion out and roll into small balls
- Roll flat using a rolling pin
- Place in a frying pan and cook over medium heat until bubbles are golden brown
