The Toronto Blue Jays are an American League MLB franchise. The Blue Jays compete in the American League East Division. For a listing of teams and their divisions, see Major League Baseball Teams. The Blue Jays were founded in 1976 as an expansion team, joining Major League Baseball in the same year as the Seattle Mariners. Originally owned by Labatt Breweries, the team adopted the name Blue Jays following a promotional contest. The team played at Exhibition Stadium from 1977 - 1989 with the team's best season coming in 1985, winning it's first American League East Division title. In 1989 the team moved to the revolutionary retractable roofed SkyDome, where the team would go on to win three of the next four division titles, including two World Series titles in 1992 and 1993. Rogers Communication Inc. purchased the SkyDome in 2004, and renamed it the Rogers Center, where the team currently plays it's home games. With the Montreal Expos having moved to Washington, DC in in 2004, the Blue Jays are the only Major League Baseball team not based in the United States.
