Muppets Bohemian Rhapsody
The video is one of a series of original viral videos starring the Muppets, refered to as "virmups." The first of the virmups was "Stars and Stripes Forever," released on June 27, 2008. The series has been posted on YouTube, Vimeo and MySpace under accounts "owned" by various Muppet characters.http://muppet.wikia.com/wiki/Bohemian_Rhapsody
The series of videos are directed by Kirk Thatcher, a former effects supervisor who was mentored by Muppets creator Jim Henson in the late 1980s before Henson's death in 1990. "Beaker's Ballad" was released in early 2010 starring the Muppets' "meeping" scientist playing along to Kansas's 1970s song "Dust in the Wind". Thatcher was awarded an Emmy for 1998's "Muppets Tonight."http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/02/18/AR2010021806494.html?hpid=sec-artsliving
The series of viral videos has proved extremely popular. "The Muppets are capturing people's attention again," says Thatcher. "We do Muppet TV movies, but they don't ignite around the world like the videos." The Muppets' version of "Bohemian Rhapsody" has proven their most popular video to date. The Queen parody has received more than 13 million views through the studio's YouTube channel.http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/02/18/AR2010021806494.html?hpid=sec-artsliving
Thatcher says that nostalgia "is definitely part of [the viral success]." He adds, "We had a list of 50, 60 songs -- 'American Pie', big ballads that everyone sings along to -- but 'Bohemian Rhapsody' rose to the ...

Showtime at the Apollo
The first televised Showtime at the Apollo airing premiered on September 12, 1987. During the years, the show had several hosts, including Mark Curry, Steve Harvey, Mo'Nique, Christopher Reid (of rap group "Kid N Play") and Sinbad. Part of the show's format was the Apollo audience, who essentially served as judges during Amateur Night, the program's talent show. Performers that did well received applause, while those who did poorly, were booed. When the audience decided that someone performed badly, the "Sandman" (an Apollo dancer dressed as a hobo with a cane) would dance out and escort them off the stage.http://www.tv.com/showtime-at-the-apollo/show/4104/summary.html
Amateur contestants generally began their performance by rubbing the Apollo Log (now called "The Tree of Hope") for good luck.http://www.apollotheater.org/amateur_night.html One of the most notable Amateur Night performances on the show was by a 13-year-old Lauryn Hill who was booed loudly as she sang Who's Lovin You.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdwhGmvB7aA Eight years later, Hill returned to the Apollo with her group The Fugees and was warmly welcomed.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AradaO6qFmg
In 2008, the televised show ended, but the Apollo continues to hold Amateur Night competitions annually. Contestants try out at various locations across the United States for an opportunity to perform live at the Apollo. Grand winners are announced each fall.http://www.apollotheater.org/amateur_night.html

His character is repeatedly handed things by other people, only to throw them to the ground in slow-motion. The video ends with Samberg getting a comeuppance and being thrown to the ground himself.
"Throw it on the Ground" was produced for SNL by the comedy troupe The Lonely Island, which features Samberg along with Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer.
