Toyota Gas Pedal Recall
On November 25, 2009 Toyota announced that it was recalling 4 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles because a fault with their accelerators. Dealers will be fixing or replacing the gas pedals because some have gotten stuck on floor mats. This has cause problems with unintended acceleration. The company will develop improved pedals, but in the meantime, Toyota dealers will shorten the vehicles' existing pedals by three-quarters of an inch.http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/26/business/26toyota.html
The affected Toyota vehicles are the 2004-2009 Prius, 2007-2010 Camry and Tundra, and 2005-2010 Avalon and Tacoma. The recalled Lexus models are the 2007-2010 ES350 and 2006-2010 IS250 and IS 350.http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/26/business/26toyota.html
This is the largest recall Toyota has ever issued and accounts for just less than half of the vehicles the company sold during recent years. The company says that there is no evidence of any problem with the vehicles' electrical system and the pedal is the sole cause for concern. At one point, Toyota had blamed the vehicles' floor mats and had vehicle owners to remove the driver's side mat.http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/26/business/26toyota.html
