Loose Tea
John Weisburger, PhD, senior researcher at the Institute for Cancer Prevention in New York has conducted multiple studies surrounding the health impacts of drinking tea. Green, black, and oolong tea all come from the camellia tea plant, a plant which is rich in polyphenols, a type of antioxidant. Weisberger describes the antioxidants as nutrients which scavenge for cell-damaging free radicals in the body and detoxify them. http://www.webmd.com/food-recipes/features/antioxidants-in-green-and-black-tea Assorted teas made the Mayo Clinic’s list of healthy gift ideas for the 2009 holiday season. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/healthy-gift-ideas/MY01065

Matcha
To produce high-quality matcha, tea leaves are covered with straw, grass or cloth for two to three weeks before they are harvested. The harvested leaves, called tencha, are steamed and dried, but not rolled like most green teas. Veins and stems are removed before the leaves are milled into fine powder. http://www.bento.com/fexp-greentea.html
