Samantha Orobator
When Samantha Orobator was arrested in August, 2008, she was 2 months pregnant, say prison authorities, but she lost that baby in prison. Authorities in Laos say she was also carrying about a half-kilo of heroin. People found guilty of that normally face the death penalty, but Laotian law prohibits the court from sentencing pregnant women to death.CNN: Pregnant Briton to escape death penalty in Laos (May 5, 2009)
In May 2009, Orobator was said to be about five months pregnant, possibly from being raped while in prison, and the baby is due in September 2009. Her trial is not scheduled yet, and she has not yet been assigned a lawyer, but the trial may happen by mid-May.CNN: Pregnant Briton to escape death penalty in Laos (May 5, 2009)
