Marvin Gaye
Marvin Gaye got his start in music in the family's church, but he began singing professionally in the 1950s. In 19958, he joined his first musical group called The Marquees. He met Berry Gordy and later married Gordy's sister, Anna Gordy and became an artist at Motown Records, which Gordy had founded.
During his time at Motown, Gaye was popular as a solo artist and as a duet partner with Tammi Terrell. He and Terrell recorded several hit songs for Motown, including How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)". Gaye returned as a solo artist and wrote several more hit songs, including socially conscious melodies such as "Mercy Mercy Me" and "Inner City Blues". Bruno Mars
As part of a family of musicians, Bruno Mars started performing at the a very young age and did impersonations of stars like Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson.c Moving to California when he was seventeen years old, he met songwriter Philip Lawrence, and together they formed a production team called The Smeezingtons. The two co-wrote string of hits for artists like Flo Rida, Brandy and Travie McCoy.c
Other than writing songs, Bruno Mars provided background vocals for some of the artists he has worked with and made his debut as a recording artist with the Far East Movement hit song "3D". He also sang with Christian artist, Jaeson Ma, when the latter released his first single, Love. But it was Bruno Mars' vocals on B.o.B's "Nothing On You" where the songwriter gained recognition as a singer. Montell Jordan
Montell Jordan got his start in the music industry by singing in choirs at his church and local talent shows. He went on to attend Pepperdine University and graduated with a degree in Communications. Seven years later, he finally secured a record deal with Def Jam. Jordan's first single This is How We Do It, a party anthem about the West Coast nightlife, was the biggest single of the year.
