How to Pass the North Dakota Bar Exam

In addition to taking and passing the North Dakota bar exam, you will also need to take the Multistate Responsibility Examination (called the MPRE for short), and earn a scaled score of 85 points or higher. You must do this within 5 years from the date of your application to join the North Dakota bar. It will be your responsibility to make sure that your MPRE score is sent to the State Board of Law Examiners. http://www.ndcourts.com/court/committees/barbd/Exam-GeneralInformation.htm

The MPRE is not nearly as intensive as the bar exam, but nonetheless it is a very important test and it will require plenty of studying. On the MPRE, you will find 60 multiple choice questions, which you will be given 2 hours and 5 minutes to complete. The questions cover ethics and moral responsibility, as well as missteps that may require disciplinary action. To obtain an MPRE application, you may contact the office of the State Board of Law Examiners in Bismarck, ND or the Office of the Dean at University of North Dakota law school in Grand Forks, ND. The MPRE is given 3 times per year, usually at law schools.http://www.ndcourts.com/court/committees/barbd/Exam-GeneralInformation.htm

How to Pass the Pennsylvania Bar Exam

Every individual has their own preferred study habits, and not everyone will want to use the same preparation techniques for their bar exam. However, there are some key tips that greatly increase your chances of passing. The keys here are maintaining discipline and focus, managing your time wisely, and believing in your self and your abilities (very important). Doing the following will result in a recipe for success:http://academic.udayton.edu/legaled/barpass/General/Others01.htm

  1. Get all of your travel arrangements, application paperwork, and other logistical tasks taken care of 3 to 4 months before the date of your examination.
  2. Lay out a schedule for your studying at least 3 months before the exam--plan what you will study when, making sure all areas are covered. Begin with the subjects that you are least confident about.
  3. Take advantage of the exam review material provided by the Pennsylvania Board of Law Examiners, which includes essay questions with model answers and examiners' analyses, as well as MBE info and more. Click here to access these review materials.http://www.pabarexam.org/bar_exam_information/examreview.htm
  4. If possible, enroll in a bar exam study class or use a self-guided service such as Micromash.
  5. Do not work for a month before the bar, but instead work full time on your preparation.
  6. Take practice tests regularly.

Justice Stevens Retirement

Justice John Paul Stevens was born on April 20, 1920 and will turn 90 years old just 11 days after his announcement to retire. Although Stevens was appointed to the Supreme Court by Republican Gerald Ford in the year 1975 and was considered a moderate early on in his career, he took a more liberal turn over the years (particularly on issues such as affirmative action and the death penalty).http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/02/20/AR2006022001196.html

Justice Stevens has the somewhat quirky honor of having a champagne room at the New York City strip club Scores named after him. While it is unlikely that Mr. Stevens was ever a client at this establishment, he did grant a legal stay on behalf of adult clubs in the area while a crack down, initiated by then-mayor Rudy Giuliani, was underway in 1998.http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/04/09/for-retiring-justice-an-honor-he-might-like-to-forget/

How to Become a Personal Injury Lawyer

When you first pass the law exam, you probably need to work at a large law firm. Trying most personal injury cases requires access to funding for research, expert testimony and medical examinations. Since most lawyers come out of law school with hefty loan obligations, you probably will need the backing of an established firm to help you work on your first cases.

Working in an established firm will also allow you to learn valuable skills and techniques used in personal injury law from more seasoned legal professionals. Consider your first years as a professional lawyer on the job training.

After you have completed several years at a law firm, you may be in a position to decide your long-term objectives. You can opt to go the law firm partner route or start your own firm. There are benefits to both career paths, so you should select the one that best fits your work style. Lawyers that work in a firm thrive on competition and working with a professional team, while lawyers who have their own firm like to be in control of more aspects of their business and have access to potentially more of the financial rewards of their work.

How To Pass the Michigan Bar Exam

Studying for the bar exam is a time-intensive process, but it is necessary if you want to pass. Generally, it is advised that you take a month to a month and a half off of work and other activities before your exam date. This is because you will need to study full time, for at least 8 hours per day, 6 days per week in order to properly prepare yourself for this rigorous examination. Plan a study schedule a few months before your exam, and be sure to stick with it. Here are some tips to help maximize your chances of success:http://academic.udayton.edu/legaled/barpass/General/advice03.htm

  1. Review all subjects covered on the bar exam, and highlight any that you have not yet studied at all or feel a bit shaky with.
  2. Set up a study area that is comfortable enough to spend long hours in, and that is well-lit with ample space for all of your study materials. Your space should be as free from noises and outside distractions as possible.
  3. Work on your grammar and spelling skills to boost your performance on the essay portion of the bar exam.
  4. Take practice tests every day during the final weeks of your studying, to become familiar with the format.

How to Pass the New Mexico Bar Exam

In order to join the State Bar of New Mexico (and thus be permitted to practice law in the state), you will need to take and pass your Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (called the MPRE) with a scaled score of 75 or higher. The MPRE is administered separately from the state bar exam, so you will need to make your own arrangements to take it. The exam is administered 3 times per year, on March 6, August 6 and November 6. If you subscribe to a religion that does not allow these types of activities on a Saturday, tests that fall on this day may also be taken on the following Sunday. You may request an application packet by calling (319) 337-1287, or check with your law school to see if any are available.http://www.nmexam.org/mpre.html

The MPRE is specifically designed to evaluate your knowledge of proper conduct befitting of all practicing attorneys in the United States. You will be tested on moral and ethical issues, as well as on disciplinary actions that may be taken against attorneys who do not follow protocol.http://www.ncbex.org/multistate-tests/mpre/mpre-faqs/general/
