The Tropicana, unlike most resorts in Las Vegas, was not built as a casino but as a luxury hotel. In 1959 an addition containing 150 rooms was added to the hotel followed by a subsequent addition of 116 rooms in 1961. The Paradise tower, containing 600 rooms, was added in 1978.http://www.tropicanamediasite.com/history-tropicana.ia?ContainerID=290&SectionNumber=1

The Wildlife Walk, featuring an assortment of island birds, was created in 1993. From 1998 through 1999 the Tropicana went through $6 million in renovations that included remodeling both the Island and the Paradise towers.http://www.tropicanamediasite.com/history-tropicana.ia?ContainerID=290&SectionNumber=1
