How to Make Beaded Earrings
There are many patterns for earrings available online. The one described below is an easier way to make beaded earrings. The steps below are to make simple dangle earrings. Once you master this technique you can start exploring more difficult patterns. You can make different shaped earrings and use various different materials to make your earrings.
For the dangle earrings described below you will need all the materials that were described in step 1 on this page:
- To start these earrings, you want to take one headpin. Mind you that headpins do come in different thicknesses and sizes. Choose a size that you think will flatter your face. It might take some experimenting.
- Add some beads onto the head pin. You can use different sized beads or you can use spacer beads in between your colored beads. Try to find nice color combinations.
- Use your round nose pliers to bend the headpin above the beads to 90 degrees.
- The part of the headpin that you bend should be made into a loop.
- Take a hook shaped ear wire and attach it to this loop.
- Repeat all the steps to make the other earring so you end up with a complete pair.http://www.beadage.net/drop_earrings/drop.shtml

How to Make Christmas Ornament Earrings
- If you do not want to make earrings that look like traditional, round Christmas ornaments, you might be interested in turning smaller ornaments on your own tree, or from the craft store, into jewelry for your ears! Some ideas include, but are not limited to:
- Tiny wooden ornaments. These can be painted with acrylic or wood paints, and decorated any way you want! Add glitter or beads, securing them with heavy duty craft glue. Use a lacquer-like finish to make the ornaments shiny, and then turn them into earrings! You can do this by gluing down a pronged earring back, or attaching an ear wire if there is a hole in the ornament.
- Small plastic or ceramic ornaments that dangle. You will not need to add embellishments to ornaments like these, but simply add an ear wire to keep the dangling effect. First, make sure the ornaments you choose can support this. Many ornaments already have a tiny silver or gold metal loop incorporated into their body from which a string or ornament hook is attached. If this is the case, it is easy to remove the string or ornament hook. Then, use a pair of flat-nosed jewelry pliers to open your ear wire hook and slip it on the ornament loop, closing the ear wire hook back up. If you choose this method, you will want to make sure the ornament is not too big or too heavy, as these types of ornaments will not work as earrings.

Troll Beads
In the past, Troll Beads has had many different events. One event, called "Be Original" was started in 2008 and allowed people to show off their beads as well as offer suggestions for future beads. This event was brought back in 2009, but as of now there is no word of a 2010 event. Another event, titled "Troll Beads Museum", offered users a chance to vote on a discontinued bead during the time the building was being constructed and the winning bead, which was Earth, was then available for purchase again. The most recent event, which was first introduced in 2009 and is in its second year, is called the "Peoples Bead 2010". This event gives individuals a chance to submit their ideas, sketches, and pictures of what they think would make good Troll Beads. The top 100 people get a bracelet and a lock and the top 10 are chosen as finalists. Those 10 beads are then voted on by anyone and the top-rated bead is added to the Christmas collection and the designer is then brought onto the design team and receives an 18 ct. version of the bead as well as all royalties from the sale of their bead. http://www.trollbeadsuniverse.com/united-states/en-us/events

Turquoise Jewelry
The squash blossom necklace was originally made in silver by the Navajo in the late 19th century. The Zuni contributed the turquoise stone to the design. http://www.americana.net/jewelry_squash_blossom_article.html Historians view the necklace as evidence of close interaction between the Navajo and the Zuni at that time. http://www.thewildwest.org/nativeamericans/nativeamericanart/107-indiansquashblossomnecklaces The name of the necklace is a mystery. Neither the Navajo nor the Zuni used the term in connection with the necklace, and the design does not resemble an actual squash blossom flower. http://www.native-languages.org/squashblossom.htm
A squash blossom necklace is a bold piece of jewelry that features a large, crescent-shaped pendant. inspired by ornaments seen on the horse bridles of the Spanish conquerors. http://www.thewildwest.org/nativeamericans/nativeamericanart/107-indiansquashblossomnecklaces The necklace is formed with domed bead designs which graduate in size toward the center of the necklace. These are often described as squashed beads. http://www.millicentrogers.org/squash_blossom.htm The part of the necklace that goes around the neck is usually plain.
The U.S Post Office sells a two cent make-up stamp that features a beautiful silver and turquoise squash blossom necklace made during the 1940s or 1950s. https://shop.usps.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10052&productId=10001789&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=10000003&top_category=10000003&categoryId=10000043&top=¤tPage=0&sort=&viewAll=N&rn=CategoriesDisplay&WT.ac=10001789 According to the Post Office website, the original necklace, owned by a private collector ...
