John Bonham

It is often reported that Robert Plant simply brought John Bonham with him into the band once he was selected by Jimmy Page to be the singer for the New Yardbirds. However, it took scores of telegrams from manager Peter Grant and a lot of coercing from his friend Plant before Bonham decided he liked the future Led Zeppelin's music better than the other artist who was pursuing him, Joe Cocker.

Rush Olympics Closing Ceremony

Canadian rock trio RUSH was rumored to be one of the performers at at the closing ceremony of the Vancouver Olympics. They did not perform. Instead, Neil Young and Michael Buble performed songs while actors Michael J. Fox, Catherine O'Hara and William Shatner gave brief, comic speeches. The ceremony commenced at 5:30PM PST and is being screened live on NBC.

Executive Producer David Atkins produced the closing ceremony. He was the man responsible for the closing ceremony for the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics. This featured high calibre performers such as Olivia Newton-John, Men At Work, Kylie Minogue, INXS and Midnight Oil. http://www.archradio.com/post/39183_rush_at_olympics_closing_ceremony

Actual details of performers for the closing ceremony were very closely guarded. The rumor about a Rush performance was fueled by the fact that Rush are not on tour at the time of the ceremony. Other Canadian acts rumored to appear at the closing ceremony who did not included Avril Lavigne and Nickelback. http://www.yesfans.com/showthread.php?p=1941378

Another factor fueling people to think that Rush will attend the closing ceremony is the extreme levels of disappointment shown when they did not appear on the opening ceremony show. Rush were strongly rumored to be appearing on that show and crowd response may encourage organisers to book them for the closing ceremony. http://www.rushisaband.com/display.php?id=2077
