Notre Dame Cathedral

The Cathedrale Notre-Dame is open every day.

There are 5 daily services and 7 on Sunday.

The offical website has a calendar listing specific services and events.

Basic hours are 8am to 6:45pm, with late hours on Thursday, 8:45pm to 10pm.

A reception desk with visitor information and recorded audio guides is at the front entrance. There is no fee to enter the cathedral, except to visit the North Tower and the Treasury, where important religious articles are protected and conserved for their sacred nature. These can be viewed 9:30am to 6 on weekdays, 9:30am to 6:30pm Saturday and 1:30 to 6:30 on Sunday.

Chateau de Chinon

Open all year round, Château de Chinon can be reached by car from Paris in about three hours. Free parking is available in the town of Chinon. Visitors may also take a train from Paris Gare Montparnasse to the station of Chinon via Tours. Entrance to the castle is free for children under 12 years old. Full admission fee is seven Euros per person. Castelnaud Castle

Included in the visit of the castle are the Museum of Medieval Warfare, the medieval siege weapons and the medieval garden.

Visitors may choose the following options:

  • 1-hour individual visit provided with free guidebook in six languages
  • 45-minute guided visit, daily in July and August
  • 1-hour theatrical performances at 8.15 p.m. every weekday in July and August by reservation

Group visit of 20 persons or more is available by appointment all year round except in July and August. There are three types of tours:

  • 45-minute guided visit
  • 1-hour guided visit plus firing of trebuchet
  • 1-hour theatrical performances in the evening

Opening times:

  • July – August: 9:00 – 20:00
  • April – June and September: 10:00 – 19:00
  • February – March and October – November 11: 10:00 – 18:00
  • November 12 – January 31: 14:00 – 17:00 except for Christmas holidays: 10:00 – 17:00

The castle also provides special games for children:

  • A voyage of discovery is a booklet of Q & A game.
  • The lecture room is equipped with comic strips and educational aids devoted to the Middle Ages.
