The remaining four people are currently being treated and are listed in critical condition at a local hospital. No residents in the area have been reported injured as a result of the explosion.

Vermillion 380 Oil Rig

The Vermillion 380 Oil Rig is located 80 miles off of the coast of Vermillion Bay, Louisiana. On September 2, 2010, the rig exploded, catching on fire. According to the U.S. Coast Guard, the fire was under control by early afternoon. Thirteen workers who were stationed on the oil platform were rescued by the Coast Guard.http://www.fox59.com/news/wgno-news-rig-explosion,0,7726475.story

The rig is owned by Houston-based energy company Mariner Energy. Initial reports said that 12 workers were in the water and that one worker was missing. Later, that worker was said to have sustained injuries in the accident, but in a press released, the company contradicted that report, saying that there had been no injuries in the explosion.http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2010/09/02/rescue-efforts-underway-after-oil-rig-accident-in-gulf/

Reports from the Department of Homeland Security claimed that the rig was not actively producing oil and gas, but these reports were also contradicted by Mariner. The corporate statement also said that the rig was producing oil and gas. In August of 2010, Mariner reported that the Vermillion 380 produced 9.2 million cubic feet of natural gas and 1,400 barrels of oil and condensate daily.http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/38973757/

In a press briefing, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said that the United States government is prepared to respond if necessary, adding "We obviously have response assets ready for deployment, should we receive reports of pollution in the water."http://www.msnbc.msn ...

WWE Fire

During the March 30, 2008 WWE WrestleMania XXIV event at the Citrus Bowl, a fireworks display caused 45 injuries when cables and debris landed in the crowd. The display, part of an introduction for wrestler The Undertaker, ended with a flaming rocket firing into the upper deck, leaving dozens of fans with burns and other minor injuries.

There were further complaints about delays in getting emergency teams into the crowd to help those who were hurt by the malfunction.

Fireworks displays are common at WWE events, and in fact were featured at a "Monday Night Raw" event the following night without incident.
