How to Choose a Wedding Gift

If a couple does not have a wedding registry or you do not find a specific item on there you would like to give to them, you can create a gift that has personal value to it. Depending on your relationship with the couple and how well you know them, you can give them a gift that will benefit their interests. For instance, if they are both into the outdoors, you can purchase a piece of camping or hiking gear that they can use. You can also give them a gift based on what they are asking for. For example, if they are requesting a variety of small kitchen appliances, you can give them with a wide array of interesting cookbooks (i.e., if they asked for a blender, provide them with smoothie recipes). If the couple is going on their honeymoon to a destination you are familiar with, give them some advice on the best sights to see while they are there or give them gift certificates for restaurants you enjoyed (if possible).

Put yourself in the shoes of the bride and groom and think about what you would want or need as a newlywed. If you are still unsure about what to get the bride and groom, consult their family members or close friends who can make recommendations.

Christmas in August

While the actual origins to the Christmas in August story are unknown, Yellowstone's Information Specialist Leslie Quinn speculates that the origins are based upon three factors. First, during the 1930s the celebration of Christmas in July was a popular celebration in the Rocky Mountains. Second, August 25th is the anniversary of the National Park Service. Third, there was an existing celebration in the park known as "Savage Days." Quinn discovered a 1966 article published by the Park's Recreation department titled, "“Christmas Comes Twice a Year—Once At Home and Once Up Here.” In the article, Gene "Mr Yellowston Music" Quaw, indicated that there was no Christmas in August celebration while he worked in Yellowstone during the 1920s and 30s. According to Quaw, there was a small Christmas in July celebration and that the employees would have an employee only celebration called "Savage Days" wherein a park employee would dress as Santa Claus.

Savage Days

In 1977, park historian Aubrey L. Haines, indicated that the earliest reference in the 1947 employee handbooks was an indication that read “Old Faithfull Savages held annual celebration” According to the August 1, 1947 issue of Yellowstone’s Weekly News the July 25th celebration had nothing to do with Christmas. "The 'savages' (concessionaire employees) at Old Faithful held a gala affair on July 25 known as “Savage Day.” Several floats were entered in the long parade up the main street at Old Faithful. The day concluded with a large masquerade ball in the evening ...

The Asteroids Galaxy Tour

Mette and Lars are the core of The Asteroids Galaxy Tour, but live, the band grow to a six-piece. Included are a fully fledged horn section of trumpet and sax players, clavinet sounds, a drummer and a guitarist. They insist they are neither a duo nor a band. Think of them as more of a collective - a group of dedicated friends with similar minds and dreams. The line-up and the sound will constantly evolve. Who knows... on their second album they might all join in writing songs, they could even have a string quartet, percussion player and backing singers...

Finally, about that name... I stole it from Miloud, our Moroccan trumpet player, who runs a hippy jewellery shop when hes not rehearsing with us, laughs Lars. Hes a dear friend and a special guy with a brilliant, random mind and a big influence on the band. He came up with the name and I grabbed it. I like it because it sounds like the title of a film or a book, rather than a band name. Its asking you to step in to a story and join us on a journey - a trip in our galaxy.
