Disco

Disco is a type of music and dance that was popular in the mid 70s through the late 1970s. Movies such as Saturday Night Fever and Thank God It's Friday made disco dance popular on a disco floor made up of lights that moved with the music while bands like the Bee Gees and KC and the Sunshine Band made the disco music popular.

The music complete with a faster than usual beat and the songs played longer than what was typical at the time. With new singers and groups like Gloria Gaynor, Herbie Mann, Donna Summer and the Village People performed songs that were thick in meaning on topics like love and dance. The songs stretched sometimes up to seventeen minutes. The dress of the disco era was very chic with the men wearing suits or at the very least polyester pants with a silky polyester shirt, while the women wore designer style dresses. Saturday Night Fever epitomized the look and the sounds of the Disco. With pulsing lights, the ever popular disco ball shining over the dance floor and the dance floors filled with women in high heels and men in platform shoes.

Choreographers, Tabitha and Napolean D'umo have choreographed a dance especially for National Dance Day. Tabitha and Napolean or NappyTabs as they are known by many people, are choreographers on the Fox reality show So You Think You Can Dance. The video of this dance has been posted on YouTube so that people can watch it and learn the steps of the dance. How to Do the Leo-Doo Combo While Locking

This combination uses fundamental moves of the leo walk and the scooby doo. Practice these steps before taking them to the next level in a combination. 

1. Start the combination by doing the leo walk. Step out to the right with your right leg. 












2. Swing your weight over to your right side by swaying your hips. 












3. Now kick your left leg forward and up. Then jump onto it. 












4. Follow the jump by kicking forward with your right leg. Land the leg down. 












4. Repeat Step 1 with your left leg to do the combination on the opposite side.

How to Do a Three-Count Riff Walk (Slams) While Tap Dancing

  • To speed up the three-count riff walk, loosen up your ankles and make your movements smaller. 
  • You can go in a circle by performing the heel dig to the side instead of straight down. Rotate your foot on the heel and drop your toe down on the side.
