Arizona Bus Crash
On March 5, 2010, a bus traveling along Interstate 10 south of Phoenix, Arizona, was struck by a pickup truck and crashed. According to preliminary news reports, six people were killed in the crash and the other 15 passengers were taken to nearby hospitals.http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/03/05/arizona.bus.crash/index.html?hpt=T1
The incident occurred just shy of 5:30 in the morning local time. After being struck by the truck, the driver of the bus apparently lost control. The bus veered hard to the left, then swerved back to the right violently and went off the road, rolling completely over at least once according to eye witnesses.
The bus is owned by Tierra Santa Bus Company out of Los Angeles, which is where the trip originated. Five of the 15 injuries were serious enough to be airlifted by helicopter to hospitals for immediate treatment, including two 11-year olds.
The six people that died in the crash have not been publicly identified, as notification of their families needed to take place first. We do know that four of six that perished were women.
The accident is expected to cause major delays throughout the day for those traveling south of Phoenix on Interstate 10, which is a major thoroughfare from the most populous city in Arizona to the southern areas of the state.
