Sherpa

Sherpa are hard workers. Most of their villages are located in Khumbu, and the farming is incredibly difficult in those mountain areas. Although they live on higher lands, their crops are usually on lower planes. Their most productive season is the Summer monsoon, and that lasts from June to September.http://www.bergadventures.com/v3_main/Sherpa-Story2.php

The Sherpa also herd yak, which are bull-like creatures with long, coarse hair. They are prominent in China.http://www.ansi.okstate.edu/breeds/other/YAK/These yak are normally kept up in the higher valleys near the grass and they provide milk and fur for coats. The Sherpa also ride on the yak for faster travel.http://www.bergadventures.com/v3_main/Sherpa-Story2.php

How to Speak Mandarin Chinese for Beginners

Mandarin's writing system consists of written symbols. There are two systems for writing Mandarin: traditional and simplified. Simplified characters are used mainly in China and Singapore, while Taiwan uses traditional writing. Beginners, however, usually start with lessons in Pinyin, which is Chinese written phonetically in the Latin alphabet.http://pinyin.info/readings/texts/moser.html

You'll learn more about writing in intermediate and advanced classes, but even a beginner should familiarize himself with Chinese characters.

  1. The right stroke order is important to write cleanly in Mandarin. You can learn the stroke order for common simplified characters online.http://writeinchinese.com/frontpage
  2. If you want to see a particular word written in Chinese characters, view an online dictionary that shows words in Pinyin, simplified, and traditional characters.http://www.mandarintools.com/worddict.html
  3. If you want to translate Chinese characters into English, Babel Fish and Google Translate are two good resources.http://world.altavista.com/babelfish/tr http://www.google.com/translate_t Remember, though, that translation software sometimes makes mistakes!
