How to Tour Hollywood Celebrity Homes

Participate in the tour by asking questions and interacting with the guide if possible. Tour guides are often full of information, and there isn't always time to relay all of it to the tourists. If you have a question about a home, when the celebrity is there or about the history of a house, just ask. Chances are that your tour guide will know something about it.

Try to get a window seat to make it easier to see the celebrity homes. In most cases, you will be driving by the homes and will have to rely on the windows to see them. Most tourist vehicles have tall, wide windows to make that easier, so even if you have the aisle, you will still be able to see most of the action.

Get out of the vehicle for all of the stops and take a look around. If it's a hot day, it may be tempting to stay inside the air-conditioned vehicle, but you will likely regret having missed some of the tour if you do. Part of the charm of Hollywood is the ambiance in the air, the hot sun and the warm wind. To really see how the celebrities live, get outside and experience it for yourself.

Monterey Bay Aquarium

In 1914, Frank Booth, proposed a $10,000 aquarium to the Monterey City Council. In 1925, Knut Hovden, sponsored a bond issue to put an aquarium in the basement of the Pacific Grove Museum. In 1944, Dr. Lawrence R. Blinks of Hopkins Marine Station suggested an aquarium at Point Lobos State Reserve. None of these ideas ever come to fruition. In the 1970s a group of marine biologists believed that the old Hovden Cannery would be a perfect place for the aquarium. In 1978 the land was sold to the Monterey Bay Aquarium Foundation. 55 million dollars was donated to the foundation, as a gift from David and Lucile Packard, which enabled the non-profit Aquarium to be self-sustaining when it was opened to the public in 1984. http://www.montereybayaquarium.org/aa/timelineBrowser.asp?tf=3

Joshua Tree National Park

Some of the native peoples that have inhabited the area have been the Pinto Culture, the Serrano, the Chemehuevi and the Cahuilla. Later in the 1800’s, cattlemen would use the area for grazing. Miners dug through the earth for gold. In the 1900’s, families were moving in and building their homes. Each of these peoples have added to the cultural history of Joshua Tree National Park. The park now contains 501 archeological sites, 88 historic structures, 19 cultural landscapes and a museum collection. The park was first a national monument in 1936. It then became Joshua Tree National park in 1994. http://www.nps.gov/jotr/historyculture/index.htm
