Scott McClellan
In his 341-page book, "What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and Washington’s Culture of Deception", about his tenure at the White House, McClellan alleges that senior officials, including President Bush, passed him false information and intentionally misled him concerning the Valerie Plame-CIA leak scandal. During a discussion of his book in November of 2008, McClellan recalled a specific conversation with Bush in which the president admitted to authorizing the leak of Plame's name to the press.YouTube: McClellan: George W. Robert Zoellick
- "The terrorists deliberately chose the World Trade towers as their target. While their blow toppled the towers, it cannot and will not shake the foundation of world trade and freedom. Our response has to counter fear and panic, and counter it with free trade."
- "The United States seeks cooperation—or better—on foreign policy and security. Given that the United States has international interests beyond trade, why not try to urge people to support our overall policies? Negotiating a free trade agreement with the United States is not something one has a right to do—it's a privilege."

Robert Gates
On November 25, 2008, it was reported that Gates would be serving as the defense secretary in the Obama Cabinet for at least the first year of Obama's term. The decision to keep the Bush appointee on in the important post was reportedly motivated by a desire to keep continuity in the position while the nation was embroiled in two major conflicts.FOX News: Defense Secretary Gates to Keep Job Under Obama (November 25, 2008)
