History of Country Music 70s

Willie Nelson was born in Abbot, Texas on April 30, 1933. Sometime early in the 1950’s after being discharged from the United States Air Force he began working as a host on a country station out of Fort Worth, Texas as well as working at night as a musician. Moving to Nashville he landed a job working with Ray Price as a bass player in his band. During this time three of the songs Nelson had written were recorded by different artists. In the 60’s Nelson was sick of big business and wanted to be a singer not just a songwriter. In 1975 he recorded his first album Red Headed Stranger.

Waylon Jennings was born Littlefield, Texas and became known as spokesman for the outlaw movement through country music. Jennings personified this period of fighting against the Nashville Sound. In 2001 he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, but a few months later on February 13, 2002 Waylon Jennings past away in his sleep.

Merle Haggard was born in a boxcar that had been turned into a home on April 6, 1937. Haggard ended up in prison at the age of twenty for attempted burglary for six to fifteen years. While in prison he was present at one of Johnny Cash’s concerts and decided right then and there that is what he wanted to do. He recorded his first album with the song Sing a Sad Song the song reached number nineteen on the ...

Fiddle

The fiddle or violin first appeared in its present form during the 16th century by combining elements from early curved fiddles, rebecs and the lira da braccio. Andrea Amati, Gasparo da Salò and Giovanni Maggini are all known as early masters of the instrument but it wasn't until the 17th and 18th centuries that fiddles became very popular when composers like Antonio Vivaldi and Johann Sebastian Bach incorporated the instrument into their compositions. http://musiced.about.com/od/beginnersguide/a/halloween.htm

Fiddle players are found all over the world, however the tradition is strongest in the British Isles, particularly Scotland and Wales, where it became the staple instrument of Celtic music along with drums and bagpipes.http://www.celtscot.ed.ac.uk/fiddle/conclusion.htm Groups such as The Fochabers Fiddlers along with The Banchory Strathspey keep the traditions alive and encourage new players by touring and performing at fairs and exhibitions.http://www.celtscot.ed.ac.uk/fiddle/conclusionpres.htm

In the US the fiddle is popular in Cajun music, with many live performances and players keeping the Cajun and Zydeco dance culture active. David Greely, the founding fiddler of Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys, and Joel Savoy of The Savoy Family Band and the Red Stick Ramblers are two such players who tour and play throughout the southern US states.http://www.linktv.org/worldmusic/blog/post/395/world-music-from-the-usa-the-cajun-fiddles-of-david-greely-and-joel-savoy

CMA Music Festival Videos

For a nice selection of CMA Music Festival videos, a great place to go is the Country Music Association's official YouTube account (www.youtube.com/user/CountryMusicAssoc). The most recent additions to the CMA YouTube library include interviews with past and present participating artists ... these "behind the scenes" videos feature the artists sharing their personal reflections on the festival, and speaking directly to fans about their hopes, experiences and expectations for the future of country music. http://www.youtube.com/user/CountryMusicAssoc

Though it's unclear whether Country Music Television's website will field an extensive video blog for this year's festival, it's worth keeping an eye on www.cmt.com for coverage. The video blog from last year's fest is still available on the CMT site, and offers entertaining glimpses into the 2009 festival. http://www.cmt.com/cma-music-festival/videos.jhtml

The Great American Country website is currently hosting a selection of CMA Music Festival videos, and will have representatives attending the event this year. If attending the fest, be sure to check out the GAC booth at Fan Fair Hall for exclusive artist meet-and-greet events and other special promotions. If you can't attend but wish you could be there, bookmark www.gactv.com for ongoing coverage of this year's fest. http://www.gactv.com/gac/pac_ctnt/text/0,,GAC_26058_47389,0.html?videoType=pup&videoID=18721&tab=5

The Judds

The Judds were a Grammy award winning mother and daughter country music duo. Naomi Judd was born in Ashville, KY on Jan. 11, 1946 as Diane Ellen Judd. In addition, [[Wynonna Judd} was born on May 30, 1964 as Christine Ciminella http://www.cmt.com/artists/az/judds_the/bio.jhtml . The mother and daughter duo were working hard to break into country music, until they landed an audition after Naomi Judd gave RCA Records a demo.

The country music duo is a true rags to riches story, since they came from complete poverty to stardom after signing with RCA Records. This popular duo ruled the country music stage for over a decade after breaking on to the Nashville music scene in 1983 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Judds. They belted out over 14 number one hits and made 10 albums altogether, which each of their albums seemed to have hit singles arise from them.

Their music was a perfect country harmony, with a bluegrass feel, which seem to appeal to their multitude of fans. http://www.starpulse.com/Music/Judds,_The/Biography/ . Their songs seem to speak to the fans and their music appealed to all ages, no matter if they were country or pop music fans. The Judds became a household name, as their career began soaring and their music made it to the radio. However, like any other music group, the mother and daughter duo faced trials and tribulations like any other music star.

Unfortunately in according to ...

Eddie Adcock

Eddie Adcock is a bluegrass banjo musician who plays the banjo and the guitar as well. He often is on stage with his wife Martha whom he married in 1976 and they have been making bluegrass music since then as the band called ‘’The Adcocks’’. Eddie and Martha are considered one of the top bluegrass bands in the United States. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddie_Adcock

In October of 2008, Eddie Adcock underwent brain surgery in order to fix a tremor in his hand. During the surgery, he was kept awake and played his banjo in order to gauge the success of the treatment.http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/AheadoftheCurve/story?id=5941480&page=1

This surgery was performed by surgeons at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Surgeons performed a procedure called "deep brain stimulation," which is like a pacemaker for the brain. Surgeons placed an electrode in an area of Adcock's brain which, when stimulated, eliminates his hand tremors.http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/AheadoftheCurve/story?id=5941480&page=1
