Los Angeles Lakers Showtime

• 1979-80 Season: In Magic Johnson's rookie year many of the championship pieces were already in place. Anchored by multiple time MVP, Kareem Abdul Jabbar and lead by first year coach, Paul Westhead the Lakers won sixty games in the regular season to win their division title. However, the highlight of the year came in the last game of the post season against the Philadelphia 76ers. The twenty year old Magic Johnson, subbing for an injured Jabbar at center, turned in one of his best performances in NBA history and the Lakers won their first title of the Showtime Era.

• 1981-1982 Season: A coaching change occurred at the beginning of this season as Paul Westhead was replaced with Pat Riley after the first eleven games. As a former player for the Lakers, Riley brought an enthusiasm and coaching philosophy that resulted in the Lakers winning seventeen out of their next twenty games. It also resulted in another championship for the Showtime Lakers as they again went to the finals and defeated Philadelphia in six games.

• 1984-85 Season: Some old faces departed while new stars emerged during the course of this season. Gone were Norm Nixon (trade) and Jamal Wilkes (injury). However, newcomers James Worthy and Byron Scott stepped in to fill their roles on the team. Worthy, in particular added a new dimension to the Showtime style with his ability to finish the fast break.
