Vernon Hunter
Vernon Hunter was tragically killed in a suicide aviation crash caused when Joseph Andrew Stack collided with an IRS building in Austin, Texas. Vernon, aged 67 was the only worker killed on the ground, although an additional 13 workers were injured. It was revealed that Stack had a dispute with the IRS and this had been his final act.
Hunter had worked for the IRS for 27 years and worked as an IRS manager in the building. Hunter had been listed as missing following the crash (February 18), but authorities identified his remains on February 20.
Vernon Hunter was raised in Orangeburg and graduated from Wilkinson High School in 1959. Detroit Plane Bomb
On December 25, 2009, Northwest Airlines international flight 253 a passenger claiming he was with the Al Qaeda set off a small explosive device during the descent toward the United States. Passengers and the cabin crew were said to have subdued the suspect and keep him isolated until landing. It is currently unknown if it was a bomb or firecrackers.
