Isis
Isis plays a key role in the myth of Osiris' death. In it, Set has trapped Osiris in a sarcophagus and thrown it into the Nile River, and Isis searches for his body so that she can give it a proper burial.http://gwydir.demon.co.uk/jo/egypt/seth.htm She asks everyone she can if they know where Osiris' body is, and finally a group of children tell her.http://gwydir.demon.co.uk/jo/egypt/seth.htm She takes Osiris from the Nile and then leaves him while she tends to her child, Horus. When Set learns that she has Osiris' body, he worries that she will use her magical powers to raise him from the dead so he dismembers Osiris' body and strews him around Egypt.http://gwydir.demon.co.uk/jo/egypt/seth.htm Isis searches and finds the pieces of Osiris and reassembles them (in some stories she does raise him from the dead and they conceive Horus at this point in the myth).http://faculty.mdc.edu/jmcnair/Joe12pages/The%20Osiris%20Legend1.htm Osiris becomes the king of the dead and Isis' son Horus goes on to try and avenge his father's death.http://faculty.mdc.edu/jmcnair/Joe12pages/The%20Osiris%20Legend1.htm
In another myth, Isis tricks Set and he is punished for killing Osiris. Isis comes to Set asking for help, and asks him what should be done to a man who kills a man and takes everything away from ...

Hathor
Hathor had another form that was known by the name Sekhmet. As Hathor she represented love, art and fertility, but as Sekhmet she was a destructive, vengeful force.http://www.pantheon.org/areas/mythology/africa/egyptian/articles.html Hathor's father, Ra, was angry with humans and wanted to punish them. He asked Hathor to do this, so she assumed the form of Sekhmet, a woman with a lion's head. She attacked humans, killing them, and had nearly wiped them out before Ra realized that he must act to stop her. In order to stop her, Ra colored a large quantity of beer red to look like blood, and offered it to Sekhmet. Fooled into thinking it is blood, Sekhmet drank until she became groggy and slept. Depending on the version of the myth, she either turned back into Hathor while sleeping, or was convinced by Ra upon waking to stop killing the humans and turn back into Hathor.http://gwydir.demon.co.uk/jo/egypt/hathor.htm
In another myth, Hathor became angry with her father Ra and wandered into the desert. A great sadness gripped Egypt, and Ra decided to ask her to return. Hathor, however, had turned into a violent wildcat, and attacked anyone who approached her. Thoth, in disguise, eventually had to convince her to return. She turned back into her Hathor form and returned.http://www.pantheon.org/areas/mythology/africa/egyptian/articles.html

Ma'at
Ma'at's main role in the mythology of ancient Egypt was to oversee the weighing of the hearts of the dead in the court of Osiris. The ostrich feather that she kept in her hair was placed on one side of the scale, the dead person's heart on the other.http://gwydir.demon.co.uk/jo/egypt/anubis.htm If the dead person's heart was lighter than the feather, it meant that they had lived a just life, and they were allowed to live happily for the rest of eternity. If the dead person's heart was heavier than the feather of Ma'at, then it meant that they had lived a wicked life. The heart was then given to the demon Ammit the Destroyer, who devoured it. A person whose heart had been devoured by Ammit spent their afterlife in a restless state.http://www.nemo.nu/ibisportal/0egyptintro/1egypt/index.htm

Thoth
In one myth, Setna, the son of a pharaoh, tried to steal Thoth's spell book. Setna traveled to the City of the Dead with his brother, knowing that the spell book was hidden there within the tomb of Neferkaptah . When they break into the tomb, they see Neferkaptah's mummy as well as the mummies of his wife and child. The mummy of Neferkaptah's wife speaks to them and warns them not to take the book. She tells them her husband had stolen the book from Thoth and as punishment she and her son drowned in the Nile River, and her husband killed himself because of his sadness. The mummy of Neferkaptah then sat up and offered the play a game of dice with the men, and give them the book if they won.http://gwydir.demon.co.uk/jo/egypt/thoth.htm
Setna agrees, and loses the first three rounds, sinking further into the ground with each loss. Up to his neck on the fourth round, he tells his brother to get his protective amulets to save him from being sucked into the earth. The brother runs to get them, Setna drags out the last round, and the brother returns in time to place the amulets on Setna's head. Setna is freed from the earth, grabs the spell book, and he and his brother flee. On the way back to his home, he passes a woman and falls madly in love with her. She says she ...

Horus
Set killed Horus' father Osiris. First he trapped him in a sarcophagus and threw it in the Nile River, but Horus' mother Isis rescued Osiris. Then, Set managed to dismember Osiris and cast the pieces of him around Egypt. Isis managed to reassemble him, and Osiris became the king of the dead. In this form, he visited Horus and asked him to avenge his death by killing Set. Horus agreed, and attacked Set. The advantage in the battle never stayed with either god for long, and the battle was said to have continued indefinitely.http://faculty.mdc.edu/jmcnair/Joe12pages/The%20Osiris%20Legend1.htm
In one instance, Set managed to blind Horus by pulling out the eye and tearing it apart. Thoth, the god of wisdom, managed to heal his eye. The representation of the Eye of Horus began to be used as a magical charm.http://gwydir.demon.co.uk/jo/egypt/horus.htm It was also said to represent strength and self-sacrifice, although in some cases it was said that one of his eyes represents the sun and the other, the one Thoth healed, represents the moon.http://www.mnsu.edu/emuseum/prehistory/egypt/religion/mythology.htm

Amun
There were few myths written about the god Amun. http://gwydir.demon.co.uk/jo/egypt/amun.htm Most of the stories involving Amun are basic background myths involving the origins of his creation. In some stories, he created himself. In others he was created by Thoth, the god of wisdom, along with the other eight primordial gods of creation, Kau, Nun, Naunet Heh, Amaunet, Hequet, Kauket and Amen.http://www.egyptianmyths.net/amon.htm

Ammut
Ammut's role was to punish the wicked when they died. They would enter the hall of Osiris to face judgement and have their hearts weighed against the feather of Ma'at. Ma'at was the ancient Egyptian goddess of justice, and her job was to judge the lives of the dead and decide where they would spend eternity. If the deceased had a heart that weighed more than the feather of Ma'at, then they went on to a happy afterlife. However, if their heart weighed less than the feather of Ma'at, it was because they had led a wicked life and deserved to be punished. Their heart would be given to Ammut and she would devour it, condemning the deceased to an afterlife of torment.http://gwydir.demon.co.uk/jo/egypt/anubis.htm

Geb
Geb and Nut were in love, but Nut was married to Ra. Ra found out about their relationship and was furious. He also learned that Nut was pregnant with Geb's children. To punish her, he made a decree that she could not give birth on any of the 360 days of the year. Nut would have to be pregnant with her and Geb's children indefinitely. Desperate to give birth, Nut consulted with Thoth, the god of wisdom. At the time, the moon was as bright as the sun, so Thoth took some of it and made five more days from it. Hence, the 365 days of the calendar year. This is also why the moon gets bigger and smaller each month. Nut was able to give birth on the five additional days, and Osiris, Isis, Set, Nephthys and Horus the Elder were born.http://gwydir.demon.co.uk/jo/egypt/nutgeb.htm
