New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival Tickets
Advance tickets are available via Ticketmaster, but if you're in New Orleans (or know someone there who could purchase tickets on your behalf) you might find the best deal by buying advance tickets directly from the Louisiana Superdome Box Office or New Orleans Arena Box Office. The New Orleans Arena Box Office (1501 Girod Street) is open 9:00 am-4:30pm. The Louisiana Superdome Box Office (1500 Poydras Street, Ground Level at Gate A) is open Monday through Friday 9:00am-4:30 p.m. Though purchasing at these venues still has fees added--a $3 service charge is added for cash purchases, and additional processing fees are added for credit card transactions--you should still save a bit over what you would pay by purchasing online via Ticketmaster.

Kalimba
The kalimba is based on the mbira, an instrument that was created by African tribes in the Zambezi region. The first reports of the mbira were made by Portuguese explorers in the 1400s. Knowledge of the instrument had spread throughout Africa, and different tribes and regions created their own designs and musical scales.<ref>http://www.kalimbamagic.com/learnabout/learnabout_how_old.php
The kalimba remained relatively unknown in the western world until the 1920s, when Englishman Hugh Tracey moved to Africa to help his brother run a tobacco farm. He discovered the mbira and was captivated by its music; it inspired him to conduct a study of African music and instruments, and eventually create the International Library of African Music.http://www.music.vt.edu/musicdictionary/textk/Kalimba.html
Tracey created the kalimba, which means "little music", a modified version of the mbira, in the late 1950s.http://web.mac.com/mattcollins7/iWeb/Collins%20Rhythmcraft/History%20Kalimba.html It was smaller and tuned to a western scale in the key of G major, which made it more accessible to the American and European audiences he sought. Tracey founded African Music International and gave lectures about African music across the United States. He managed to market his design to Creative Playthings, which ordered 10,000 kalimbas. Since then, African Music International has continued to manufacture and sell kalimbas and other African instruments. Several other companies have released their own designs.http://www.kalimbamagic.com/learnabout/learnabout_afrinst.php http://www.google.com/search ...
