2011 Libya Protests
As protests continued, one of Gadhafi's sons gave an address on state TV saying, "We will keep fighting until the last man standing, even to the last woman standing." There were some signs of dissension: The Guardian newspaper reported that several Libyan diplomats had "resigned in protest" and at least two "high-ranking" air force pilots in Libya had opted to defect to Malta, "rather than carry out orders to bomb civilians."http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/feb/21/libya-pilots-flee-to-malta?intcmp=239updated 2011-02-25 04:44:58

Anfoushi Neighborhood
Located in the north end of the city, the Anfoushi neighborhood overlooks the Mediterranean. You'll pack a lot of sightseeing into a relatively small area if you target this neighborhood. Some of the major attractions include:
Qaitbay Citadel: Built to defend the city in the 15th century by Sultan al-Nasser bin Qalawoun, the Citadel is located at the northern edge of the entrance to the eastern port, in teh exact same location as the ancient great Lighthouse of Alexandria. Today it houses a museum and the Alexandria Aquarium.
Abu El Abbas El Mursi Mosque: Constructed in 1775 by Algerians, it was built over the tomb of the thirteenth century Murcia Andalusan saint, Ahmed Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi (Abu'l 'Abbas) It's been a focal point for Muslims since the mid 7th century and has a long history as a sacred site.
Anfoushi Cultural Palace: This government owned and operated cutlural institution hosts fine art exhibits and cultural and educational events.
Anfushi Tombs: Dating from 250 BC, these tombs are made of limestone and are decorated with pictures of Egyptian gods and daily life in a Greek inspired style.
In addition to historic and cultural sites, you'll find a busy fish market and thriving nightclub scene in this colourful neighborhood.http://www.touregypt.net/alanfush.htm http://www.touregypt.net/featurestories/abbasmursimosque.htm

Peter Mokaba Stadium
Peter Mokaba Stadium is a South African venue which is among ten stadiums that will host games in the 2010 World Cup. It will host four group-stage contests: Algeria facing off with Slovenia on June 13; France versus Mexico on June 17; Argentina versus Greece on June 22; and, finally, Paraguay versus New Zealand on June 24. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/world-cup/fixtures Peter Mokaba is one of the few stadiums that will not host a latter-stage game, so its participation will conclude with the June 24 game.http://soccernet.espn.go.com/world-cup/fixtures
The stadium was built in 2010, for the express purpose of the World Cup. It was built right next to the site of the previous Peter Mokaba Stadium, which World Cup organizers had previously considered using for the event, before deciding to go with a new venue. It cost about $150 million to build, and it will seat almost 50,000 fans, including 5,000 VIP seats. The stadium's design, specifically the circulation ramps located at the stadium's corners, are based on the Baobab tree, which is famously prevalent in the region. http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/destination/stadiums/stadium=5007758/index.html Because the stadium is brand new, no team yet uses it as its home park, though there are plans to change that in the future.
Peter Mokaba Stadium is located in the northeastern town of Polokwane, home to slightly more than half a million South Africans. The city, whose ...
