Tool Boxes, or tool chests, are containers used to store or transport tools. The word tool box is often used to describe a box intended for hardware tools but can be used to describe a container of any set of tools.
Types of Tool Boxes
Traditional tool boxes are mostly made of hard plastic or metal and have a handle to help carry it. Larger styles have become available with stackable sections and wheels for easier transport. Most have a variety of compartments to accommodate all sizes of tools and accessories. Some larger tool boxes called truck boxes are meant to sit at the tail gate of a truck. Tool boxes are convenient for the organization of tools and in many trades a well organized tool box can convey a sense of professionalism to the customer.
Choosing a Tool Box
There are plenty of options when it comes to tool boxes. To choose your tool box, as with choosing any other tool, first think about the purpose it will serve. Consider the conditions in which your tools will be stored. If you are storing them in a place that might get wet, like a leaky garage, be sure to get a tool box that will protect your tools from the moisture. Keep in mind that tools can quickly wear surfaces down. Be sure and choose a tool box that is durable. Gather all the tools you want to put in to the tool box, and choose a larger rather than a smaller model to be sure everything will fit. Make sure that there are compartments for each type of object you want to store.
Alternatives
A tool belt is a common alternative to a tool box. The belt has loops that allow the tools to hang. Tool belts are convenient when working where there is no place to set down a tool box, like a ladder.
