When a Charm is acquired, an associated quest is randomly generated. The criteria for Charm Quests can include collecting certain items (such as Blueprints), finding secret areas or killing enemies in a particular fashion. In addition to completing the quest criteria, the Charm must also be equipped with a certain number of Runes for it to become fully activated. Charms are powerful items, each with a separate ability.
