  • Professional NASCAR driver Tony Stewart raced for the Joe Gibbs Racing team beginning in 1999. He announced in July 2008 that he would move to Haas CNC Racing as a driver and co-owner after the 2008 season.   • Racing Career

    Tony Stewart began his NASCAR career in 1999, finishing in the top 10 in several races. He finished 4th place in points in his first year. His early success earned him NASCAR's Winston Cup Rookie of the Year award.

    Stewart won his first series championship in 2002 for Joe Gibbs Racing. Stewart finished the season with three wins, putting him 31 points ahead of runner up Mark Martin in the final standings.

  • 2009 Daytona 500

    Stewart and Ryan Newman both crashed their cars during the final Daytona 500 practice on February 14, 2009. Neither driver was injured.
