  • Tony La Russa is the current manager of the St. Louis Cardinals. He is one of only two managers in Major League history to win the World Series in both the American and National leagues, winning with both the Oakland Athletics and the St. Louis Cardinals. La Russa currently holds the Cardinals' record for most wins by a manager.

    In May 2009, La Russa filed a lawsuit against Twitter, for allegedly allowing an imposter to post "derogatory and demeaning" updates with an account under La Russa's name. One of the posts made joking reference to 2002 death of Cardinals pitcher Darryl Kile.   • Career as Manager

    La Russa was hired as the manager of the Chicago White Sox in 1979 and was named American League Manager of the Year in 1983. He was fired by the White Sox in 1986 and took the helm of the Oakland Athletics the same season. La Russa led the team to three consecutive pennants from 1988-1990 and won the World Series in 1989. La Russa left the Athletics in 1996 to manage the St. Louis Cardinals. In 2006, the team won the World Series.
  • 2007 DUI Conviction

    La Russa plead guilty to DUI in Florida after he was discovered asleep at a stop light with his foot on the brake pedal. La Russa had a blood alcohol of .093. He apologized to baseball fans and said that a similar incident would "never occur again."
