Tony Abreu

  • Major League Baseball second and third baseman Tony Abreu currently plays for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

    Abreu originally signed as an undrafted amateur free agent on October 17, 2002 with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

    In 2003, Abreu joined the Dodgers minor league affiliates, where he played for his first few seasons. 2005 was a breakout year for Abreu in the minors, as he was selected for the Florida State League All-Star Team. He was also selected as the Dodgers' Minor League Player of the Month in June 2005.

    Abreu was called up to make his MLB debut with the dodgers on May 22, 2007. He played a total of 59 games in 2007, hitting 19 runs and finishing with a .271 batting average.

    Abreu began the 2008 season on the disabled list, still recovering from a October 3, 2007 surgery to repair a sports hernia.
