  In her first major acting performance at the age of 11, Collette faked a case of appendicitis and was so convincing that doctors ended up removing it. She made her on screen debut in 1992 in the film Spotswood, alongside actors Anthony Hopkins and Russell Crowe.

  Toni Collette plays the role of Tara in the comedy series United States of Tara which was created by Steven Spielberg and developed by Diablo Cody of Juno fame. Tara suffers from multiple personalities (Dissociative Identity Disorder) that include a teenage pot smoker named T, Alice, a homemaker and Buck, a beer drinking male biker.
