Early Years
Tommy Haas began playing tennis at two and a half. His father was a coach at a tennis club in Hamburg and discovered that his son had abilities when he discovered him hitting tennis balls against a wood plank. By the age of five, Haas won a small youth tournament and three years later was playing larger youth tournaments in Munich. Haas won his first German Championship at the age of eleven where he was scouted by Nick Bollettieri. Haas left his home for Florida and trained at Bollettieri's tennis academy.Tommy Haas: Career
Haas Poisoned
During the Davis Cup semifinals in September 2007, Haas was forced out of his match with a questionable stomach virus. Rumors spread that Haas was not sick, but that he was poisoned by a Russian. The International Tennis Federation investigated this alleged accusation and two months later confirmed that there was no evidence to support the claim. BBC Sport: No Evidence of Haas Poisoning
