Tomato Soup

Traditional tomato soup is simply made, primarily consisting of mashed and heated tomatoes with broth or cream. More complex varieties can contain extra vegetables or even some meats.

Making Tomato Soup

  1. Saute onions and garlic in olive oil or other vegetable oil. Chopped peppers are another optional ingredient.
  2. Once onion is browning, continue heating with tomatoes and any other desired vegetables.
  3. As the mixture simmers, add additional spices or sauces. Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco sauce or other hot sauce can added based on desired flavor.

Tomato Soup Variations

Tomatoes can serve as the base for any number of soups. Tomato Bisque is a thicker soup, usually with pureed seafood.

Crushed tomatoes are frequently included in tortilla soup, though the spice of chiles and hot sauce are often the more dominant flavors.
