Tom Harkin is a U.S. Senator from the state of Iowa. He served in the U.S. Navy before receiving his Juris Doctor from Columbus School of Law in [[1972]. Soon after attain his J.D., he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1974.
Shortly after the polls closed on November 4, 2008, CNN projected that Harkin would retain his seat in the U.S. Senate.

Positions
A strong advocate for people with disabilities, Harkin is a member of the Health, Education, Labor & Pensions Committee and co-authored the seminal, Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990. Harkin has also supported the legalization of abortion and is in favor of embryonic stem cell research. Harkin's current term will end in 2009, and in January 2008, he announced that he will be seeking reelection.
