Toffee

Toffee is a candy which contains sugar (or molasses) and butter as the main ingredients. It is often combined with nuts and/or coated with chocolate.

Popular Variants

  1. English toffee - Buttery and made with almonds. Can be made chewy or hard
  2. Cinder toffee - Also known as honeycomb or sponge toffee. Bubbles are added using baking soda
  3. Bonfire toffee - Very hard and brittle toffee. Popular Halloween item

Making Toffee

Toffee is made by boiling sugar or molasses with butter and flour. It has to bee heated to over 200 degrees. The combination is boiled until it becomes stiff and can be formed into a smooth, glossy shape. Different mixes and textures can be made. Toffee can be hard or chewy and additional ingredients can be added for more flavor.
