Early Life

Timothy Stephen Wakefield was born in Melbourne, Florida on August 2, 1966. He attended college at the Florida Institute of Technology. In 1988, Wakefield was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the eighth round of the Major League Baseball draft.Baseballl-Reference.com: Tim Wakefield

Pro Career

Wakefield made his MLB debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 31, 1992. In his first season with the Pirates, he appeared in 13 games and compiled a record of eight wins and one loss, with an ERA of 2.15. In 1995, Wakefield signed as a free agent with the Boston Red Sox.
